Club Championship

Dreamland Golf Club enjoyed a truly European Tour atmosphere this past weekend, with our first ever Two-Day Club Championship. Sixty six members competed in the various flight categories which included our lowest handicap players battling it out for the overall Gross – 2017 Club Champion title. After the scores from Day One were published, the draw was made in reverse order with players who scored similar competing in the same group. With windy conditions on Sunday, the leading players teed off last around 11.30am from tee 13, for what would be a nervous game for many.
For the Club Championship Final round the hole configuration was changed with 12 green now becoming 18 offering players a risk reward finish. As the early morning scorecards were recorded the finishers assembled on the patio terrace to increase the excitement of watching others close out their championship. Congratulations goes to our 2017 Dreamland Golf Club Champion Robert O’Donoghue with gross scores of 77+83 Total 160, Rob also lead the Net section of the Golden Flight however based on his Gross Score taking precedent the Flight was awarded to Sean Harrison with Net 72+71 Total143. Winning the Runner-up prize, was Bruce Munroe Ferguson tied also on a Net143 with 69+74 (countback Day Two). The Silver Flight (hcp 15.0 – 28.0) was won by Jim Corbally 34pts+35pts Total 69pts with runner up Graham Beattie 34pts+33pts Total 67pts.
Despite some early nerves there were some excellent performances in the Ladies Flight with scores improving on Day Two. Well done to our 2017 Ladies Champion Janet Dutnall 25pts+34pts Total 59pts followed by Runner Up Leona Paterson with 24pts+29pts Total 53pts winning on a countback with her final day points.
A BIG thank you goes to General Manager Anar Mikayilov and the Hard Rock Café team for providing a selection of tasty bites for players to enjoy whilst watching the final groups complete their rounds. With the new Porsche Panamera on show we would like to thank Porsche Center Baku and its marketing director Zaka Alibayov for supporting our first Championship with beautifully designed trophy plates and golf gifts from the Porsche collection. The event was concluded with some refreshing sundowner’s cocktails compliments of Organika Vodka and its manager Rufat Asadullayev who presented a bottle of their premium spirit to each winner.
In summing up the weekend, Anton Samsonov PGA Professional & Golf Operations Manager “The course set up was perfect with the 12 th green becoming the 18 th , it really gave players the chance to risk it and hit over the water. What a show! What a game! Members got to see it all, from a few short shots into the water and other players missing short putts as the pressure mounted. We look forward to growing the game further and seeing more players compete in next year’s event”
